988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline

Trained anonymous crisis counselors are available from anywhere in the US by dialing, calling or texting 988. This service is active 24 hours a day , 7 days a week. These counselors can talk with you if you are feeling suicidal or assist you with connecting to other mental health resources in your area.

911 / Your Local Emergency Room

If at any time you or someone you know are experiencing a life threatening mental health crisis you can call 911 or walk in to your local emergency room for immediate psychiatric assistance.

Psychiatric Emergency Screening Services (PESS)

Each county has an emergency screening service, typically coordinated through local hospitals. These services are available in the event of a psychiatric emergency as well. If you or someone you know are having suicidal thought or ideas, or have concerns about your mental health you can contact screening services. A licensed professional will meet and conduct an evaluation and recommend the best course of action to assist you. You can find a list of all PESS agencies in NJ at the link below.

PerformCare

This agency is available to assist youth ages 5-21 with issues regarding behavioral health, mental health, disabilities and substance abuse by connecting their families to treatment and other resources in their communities.
